48 kilometers in pouring rain, they decided to stop at a small motel on the highway when their feet starting to go “squish-squish.” The motel included a cafe and a CAN-OP gas station, and was run by a woman who was 9 months pregnant, expecting “any time.” They were incredibly grateful for the stop which proved very comfortable.
They couldn’t phone home, however, because the cell was out of range, the only phone was in the cafe which was closed when they went to use it, and the phone booth outside was empty.
A highlight for Marv and Loretta was meeting Martin and Anne Mack, another couple crossing Canada by bike. Their pace was faster, but then they were “much younger,” according to Loretta.
