Joliette

They enjoyed the best roads, best weather and best traffic conditions in weeks. They are on a secondary highway cycling through the countryside, smelling manure, and riding through corn fields.

Other differences: no motels on the highway, gas stations don’t sport restaurants, and signage directing them is sparse. And of course, French. Their smattering of French is getting them by, but barely. They are wishing their grandkids were there to help (they are all French immersion students).

The highlight of the day was Laurentides. This is where Sir Wilfred Laurier spent his youth. They saw a play based on people living in that time, and found it quite thrilling. It is the small surprises like these that they have enjoyed all across Canada.
