Portage la Prairie

Easy kilometers. They ambled. Loretta sounded ecstatic about the virtual absence of wind — even when it’s at their back the noise bothers her.

Her one complaint was the lack of paved shoulders in Manitoba. They are on the #1, a 4-lane highway, but it has no paved shoulder. So, they ride in the right lane. Luckily, though the traffic is fairly heavy, the drivers are excellent, giving them a wide berth. Only once when a truck was unable to switch lanes was there a problem, and he warned them with a horn blast so they were able to move over.

Weather is unpredictable and cool. Luckily, they’ve not often been caught in rain storms, and typically shelter has been close by. The coolness is nice for cycling.
